Proverbs 18:21 – Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
Proverbs 21:23 – Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
I know there have been many times in my life where I spoke words and then regretted it, sometimes almost the instant they came out of my mouth. Then I would beat myself up for awhile by saying,”Why do I do and say things that I know I shouldn’t!”
We all could be much wiser and have a lot less regret if we just thought before we spoke. Ask God to help you do that everyday. He will put a thought in your head that says, “Don’t do it – Don’t speak it!” At that point, you have only a second to decide whether you will follow that advice or go ahead and speak, only to regret it later. When you are very animated about something, it is so easy to disregard that small voice and continue to go in the same direction. Ask God to give you strength to always think first before you speak about something you are unsure of.
There are times when you need to stand up and speak out, but God can lead you in those times also so that you can speak with authority and with His Power upon you. You can accomplish much more by doing things God’s Way.
