Patience Is Also A Form Of Action

Patience Is Also A Form Of Action – You might not always visibly see God at work on your behalf, but He loves you so much that He desires to give you His Best.

I have this posted in a prominent place in my office where I will see it every day. I think in my growing up years I could have been in the Top 10 for the most impatient person on earth. When I decided I wanted something I wanted it NOW, and I did everything possible to make it happen NOW.

Please keep reading below the infographic because I continue to share my story of what God has taught me in the last few years about the importance of acquiring patience in order to be used by God.

I still have problems with patience, such as I hate wasting my time at long traffic lights. I will go a different way if at all possible to avoid the wait. I don’t want to be late to an event, but I also don’t want to get there extremely early. If I must be early for a specific reason, I want to have a book to read or be able to do something I feel is productive, especially if I am by myself, like waiting on an appointment for the doctor.

I have felt the leading of the Holy Spirit to ask for help in acquiring patience in every area of my life. When I get frustrated over a small thing like a traffic light it affects me in a negative way. Then if I don’t put that impatience aside quickly, it’s easy to be negative for the rest of the day. I don’t want small and irrelevant things to ruin my day. In a few weeks I won’t even remember they happened, so I don’t want to lose a whole day or days fretting about things that aren’t important.  But I have learned that if you don’t acquire patience where God is concerned you will never be able to receive His Best and allow Him to use you in a powerful and supernatural way. He has His own time for something to happen and it is always the perfect time – not a minute early or late.

The “perfect timing of God” is a huge thing to deal with if you are an impatient person. Believe me, I know. But I have found that God always wants to stretch and grow me in ways that I can’t see. If I get everything NOW like I would prefer, the opportunity for spiritual growth is stunted or lost.

God watches over every area of my life to prune branches that are stunting my growth. He wants me to bear every bit of fruit that I am capable of producing. The pruning process isn’t always easy, but the end result is much greater than anything I would have imagined. Already I have seen God lead me to do things I never imagined I would be doing. I have found that I can’t do them on my own, but with His strength and ability I can accomplish anything.

Many times during my earlier years, I didn’t see evidence of God working in certain areas. So I took matters into my own hands and tried to “help God out” just in case HE had forgotten about my problem. (This statement alone shows how much I really knew about the Character of God and how He works in every Christian’s life.)

Because of my impatience to wait on God, I got frustrated because He didn’t always answer my prayers quickly. Now I can see that I probably messed up a few things that He had to straighten out. Also, He was trying to teach me to depend on Him instead of trying to figure it out myself. But I didn’t understand any of that at the time.

The more I learn about the Character of God, the more I am amazed that He thought He could use me at all. Somehow He looked past all the impatience and inabilities and saw someone who would eventually start to seek Him with all her heart. God has shown me in a very real way that He will always lean towards mercy and grace in my life.

AND…He has also shown me in a dramatic way that He will always lean toward mercy and grace in the lives of other people. That means that I must do the same.

It’s easy to see what is wrong in the lives of others and hard to see what is wrong in your own life. Pride does a great job of keeping you blind to your own sin and stubbornness. (And I’m talking from personal experience, not just hearsay.)

God has also shown me that I have no idea how He is working in the life of someone else. And because I don’t know what’s best for them, I need to be very careful about trying to play “God” in their life.

But I don’t need to allow someone else to play “God” in my own life either. I did that once, and it almost cost me my health. I hope it is a lesson I will never forget.

God looks at and does things in a completely different way than I do. His main goal is to help me grow and mature as a Christian and bear lasting fruit that will be there for years to come.

Unfortunately, sometimes I just want whatever I want NOW. And I have found that it is usually not what is best for me.

If you also have a problem with impatience, I encourage you to ask the Holy Spirit to give you grace and mercy in this area. Remember that God is not trying to punish you, but He always wants you to bear the most fruit possible so that you can live a powerful and victorious Christian life.

Once you start to see God work supernaturally in your life, you will desire Him to use you more and more. AND…you will be amazed at the continuous flow of mercy and grace He sends your way when you know you have done nothing to deserve it.
