Great Story – How Heavy Are Your Burdens?

What better word picture could you come up with to give an example of how a burden gets heavier and heavier the longer you carry it. Jesus died on the cross so that He could be the bearer of all your burdens, but you must give them to Him instead of staggering under a heavy load trying to carry them yourself.

Try it and see what a huge difference it can make in your everyday life!

A lecturer, when explaining stress management to an audience, raised a glass of water and asked, “How heavy is this glass of water?”

Answers called out ranging from 2 to 5 pounds.

The lecturer replied, “The absolute weight doesn’t matter. It depends on how long you try to hold it.”

He continued, “If I hold it for a minute, that’s not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I’ll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you’ll have to call an ambulance. In each case, it’s the same weight. But the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.

“And that’s the way it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won’t be able to carry on. As with the glass of water, you have to put it down.”

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light. This video is one of the most powerful I have seen on this subject. It portrays a wonderful word picture of how most of us tend to carry around all our baggage even though our hands are raw and bleeding, and we are bent low from all the excess weight.

Jesus died so that every Christian (one who has asked Jesus into their heart) could be set free from all the weights that seem to drag us down. When you walk in step with Him, you won’t have to carry that heavy burden around any more all by yourself.

Jesus said in Matthew 11: 28-30:

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
