What Is Total Surrender?

What does it really mean to surrender every dream and every single part of your whole life to God?

For much of my life, I thought this kind of surrender meant that God would tell me to do something I didn’t want to do; then I would be stuck in a miserable existence, forcing myself to be obedient to Him day after day but wishing I had chosen another path.

My perception of God was so wrong. How could I have ever believed that my loving Father who created me would ever want anything less than His best for my life? My only answer is that I felt I was smart enough to do things on my own. It’s funny how we always try to make ourselves believe that we are in complete control of all situations when, in actuality, there are very few things we have any control over at all.

It is a scary thing to make the decision to turn your life over completely to God if you don’t already know something about His Character. His dreams for you are much better than any you have ever had, but you will never understand Him with head knowledge only. You must read the Bible and let its words soak into your heart to change your way of thinking.

If you have come to the conclusion that you don’t have everything under control and can’t make things right no matter how hard you try, give up your own way of doing things and give God the steering wheel. He will meet you exactly where you are at this moment and start to direct your ways.

Once you start to see His Character, you will find that you can fully surrender every area of your life to Him and know that He is leading you in the right direction.

Total surrender is just being obedient to the leadership of the Holy Spirit (God living inside the Christian.) You don’t need to have all the answers when God already knows them.

John 16: 13-14

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

It Will Never Pay To Run From God!

You might think you can run away from what God wants you to do for awhile, but in the end you will wish you hadn’t. Most of us tend to think that our way is much better or that we will be more fulfilled going in a different direction than the one God has given us.

God thinks in terms of “very best” for what He wants to accomplish with your life. You will never feel more fulfilled than when you are exactly in the center of His Will. So why fight Him at all when He tells you what to do. I have learned from personal experience that He can change your whole attitude about what you are to do when you just surrender your own plans and let Him take the lead.

In fact, the thing you thought you didn’t want to do will become something that you couldn’t imagine yourself not doing and you are so proud that you didn’t miss the opportunity.

If you know God is telling you to do something, don’t fight Him any longer. Step out on faith and find out how awesome He is and how great it feels to go to sleep each night knowing that what you accomplished for the day was totally in the center of His Will and was pleasing to Him.

The Southern Ten Commandments

Since I am a born and bred US southerner, I feel I have the right to post this. I certainly don’t want to make fun of the south, because I love living here. This southern rendition of the Ten Commandments is about as plain as you can get it for a total understanding of what they mean.You just can’t get much clearer than this, no matter what part of the world you live in.

God has given each of these for our own best interest, so we all need to get back to the basics and take them seriously. Not only that, but God will bless you for keeping His Commandments.

Never Give Up on Getting God’s Best

As a Christian, you need to seek God first; then find what He wants you to do and set your mind to do it. Satan will use whatever or whomever he can to try to defeat you. It takes faith and determination to receive God’s Best, and you won’t get it if you give up the fight.

Gods Best has to be totally initiated, ordained, and brought forth by Him in His complete timing. You can never do anything to make it to come to pass yourself.

Ask Him to give you the faith to believe that whatever plans He has for you will come to pass when the time is right. NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! GIVE UP ON GETTING GOD’S BEST FOR YOUR LIFE.

No matter how things look, God has everything under control!

Make sure you sow good seeds!

This is such a powerful quote. We all need to make sure that we remember these words the next time we are “really ticked off” by another person and are tempted to wallow in a sea of anger, hate, unforgiveness, etc.

It is not just people who can cause you to plant bad seeds; it is also circumstances that happen as a result of everyday living. When everything seems to go wrong, you always have a choice as to how you will react.

It must be your choice to plant good seeds each day.

This post is not about something extremely horrible that has happened to you. If that is the case, there will be certain stages you need to work through to get past your grief or anger, and you may even need to get some Christian counseling. You still are the one that finally has to make the choice, though, of what you will do to get rid of all the bad feelings that are keeping you from having God’s Best. You can continue to let them control you, or decide that you will start to plant good seeds and let the bad stuff go.

It always helps to remember that you are getting rid of all the bad things in your life because it is what God wants you to do. He cannot truly bless you until you have done the things He has asked, no matter how much your flesh is fighting to get its own way.

He always has your best interest at heart. There is another quote that says “He who angers you controls you.” I don’t know its origin, but it is certainly true. When you are full of anger and hate, there is no room for God to work in your life. It is like a leech that sucks all your energy, talents, peace, joy, and even can change your whole personality.

According to the dictionary:

React - 1. To act in response to or under the influence of a stimulus or prompting 2. To act reciprocally or in return

Respond – 1. To make a reply; answer 2. To act in return or in answer 3. To react positively or favorably

To react means you give back the same thing that was given to you in much the same manner. To respond acts in return, but in a positive way.

These words are very powerful for every person, but especially for the Christian. You may not have control over many of the things that happen to you, but you can ALWAYS have control over how you respond to them. It is important for the Christian to walk with God on a daily basis. When you do that, your mind is set in a spiritual mode, and not in a fleshly one. You have already decided that you want your actions to please God.

I know from my own experience that when I make up my mind about something, I set it firmly and am not easily persuaded to act differently. I believe I know the truth and am acting totally and completely upon what I believe. When you fully believe in something, your actions will naturally follow with passion and determination.

Then if Satan throws you a curve in some way, you are much more likely to have the correct response. Even though you have no idea what might happen in the future, you are in a sense prepared for almost anything. You have already decided that you will think before you speak or act. Living your life this way can save you much heartache and regret.

When you just react to whatever comes your way without thinking first, your flesh takes control and does whatever it feels at the moment. That is when you do things that might hurt your testimony as a Christian.

Unsaved people are always watching to see if a Christian acts any differently when they go through bad times, because they have told the world that they have a powerful God who can meet all their needs. When you let the flesh take control, sometimes you never get a chance to undo the damage you have done to your Christian testimony as far as that one person or incident is concerned.

The Christian will never have to live with regret if he will learn to hear the Holy Spirit when He speaks. He is waiting patiently to give guidance and direction to walk in the truth. All you have to do is ask Him to take control of your speech, hearing, thinking, etc. You will find that you are more aware of things going on around you, and will have much more discernment than you ever had before.

Also, make the choice to study your Bible on a daily basis and spend time in prayer seeking direction. Put God first in your everyday life. All you need to do is make the first step, and He will meet you wherever you are.

The leadership of the Holy Spirit is the only way that you can respond instead of react to any given situation that happens in an instant. Now more than ever, we as Christians need to be a light to a world that is looking for something real, but trying to find it everywhere except in God.

The next time something unexpected happens, make sure that you respond in a way that will be pleasing to God.
