There is always a road to go down that follows an action that has been taken. The question is – how long will the road be and how long will it take to go down it?
You are presented with choices every day. It is fairly easy to make a choice when it only requires good common sense, but what do you do when God tells you to do something that you don’t have the faintest idea of why he would want you to do it? Or what if it is something that is way too large for you to handle on your own?
A person I know very well talked to me in-depth about something God told them to do. They were very certain that He had spoken to them, and were sure of the actions they needed to take. God also convicted them that they needed to start right away to walk in obedience to the word He had given them. (No, this person is not me, but I certainly want to learn a lesson from this and always walk in obedience to God no matter what He tells me to do.)
The only problem is, the person did not obey God right away. They talked about it and I think they truly meant to do it, but other things kept getting in the way and it seemed like each day brought a myriad of “extra” things to do that quickly used up all their time.
When Satan saw that they had good intentions but never followed through after several weeks, he started to invent more and more “extra” things to keep them insanely busy. These were really good things, but were extremely unimportant when compared with walking in obedience to what God had told them to do.
Even though you might not understand the importance of His directions, God times everything perfectly and is depending on you to obey even though it might not seem like a very important job He asked you to do, at least as far as you are concerned.
The problem with putting things off is that Satan is well aware of your actions, and it gives him an opening to place more and more things in your path that will lead you away from God. He knows you will lose your spiritual power if you are walking in disobedience to God.
Getting back to the story, this person’s life went downhill very quickly. God spoke to them around the first of October. They talked about it several times and I expected them to follow through in November, but as it was getting on toward the end of the month, they said they would definitely start to do what God had said at the first of the next year. Naturally by this time Satan was already trying to trip them up and get them off track.
January was the deadline they had set to start, but it didn’t happen. After only a couple of months they were to the point that they were “running around like a chicken with its head cut off” (as my Granny used to say to describe a person whose life was filled with chaos.) Their life was filled with one crisis moment after another that led to frustration and despair. I don’t know if they ever realized that their very sad ending was the direct result of their procrastination to obey God. I tried several times to talk to them, but they just couldn’t see their way to make the needed change.
All Satan is looking for is one tiny opening where he can start to wedge his way in; then before you realize what has happened, he has built a stronghold that is hard to tear down – definitely not impossible, but sometimes very hard.
You come to a crossroads like the picture above every time God tells you to do something where you have to get out of your comfort zone and trust Him to give you the strength and wisdom to do what He has asked. No, you might not be able to see the “big picture” but God will always be able to see it and know your perfect place and timing in it.
The story I have told you is unfortunately very true, and very sad, but you don’t have to let this define your life. God has a plan for you that only you will be able to accomplish.
Don’t put off doing what God has told you to do, because Satan’s sole plan for your life is to destroy you in whatever way he can – and he will stop at nothing to achieve this plan. Don’t give him even the smallest of openings to work through!
